Apply nature’s principles
• To start and grow a meaningful Legacy •

People
Nature is in a perfect harmonic balance. It is up to you to understand it, find your true, authentic place in it, and align with it to restore the balance in your own life.

Planet
When looking at the planet through the media, all we see is chaos. However, when we look closer, we see that nature is constantly restoring her perfect harmonic balance.

Profit
The principles governing nature’s harmonic balance facilitate Infinite growth, sustainability, and zero waste. Profitability depends on how well we align strategy with nature.
Nature business?
“Off the Grid with Marc” offers a unique combination of going back to basics in nature and business consulting. Not your everyday combination, right?
So, what do nature and business have to do with each other? Not so much in many ways. However, when looking closer, nature has a unique way of organizing itself. It intuitively knows the path of least resistance, does not let anything go to waste, and has a pre-programmed exit strategy for every organism. Nature does not follow anyone’s rules but does comply with natural laws. As an entrepreneur, those principles must sound familiar…

Routes to roads.
If you go off the road, into the forest, it won’t be long before you run in to a path. Many of these paths are not man-made but created over time by wildlife. Because all these animals instinctively chose the most efficient way, together they form a path over time. It should not surprise you that theory suggests that the pathways animals created this way were gradually adopted and adapted by humans over time. When humans evolved and with them their tools, these paths turned into roads, and roads into highways. The theory suggests that all major highways once started as simple deer trails. When setting the roads into stone and later asphalt, we lost a crucial function of the deer trail. We lost the ability to be flexible when circumstances demand it.
When a trail gets blocked in the forest, the deer finds the path that now becomes the most efficient. It does not stand there and worry about how unfair the roadblock is. It does not waste its energy to force an immovable object. It simply re-orients itself and moves on to the same destination.
Stand still
Stand still.
The trees ahead and the bushes beside you Are not lost.
Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you,
If you leave it you may come back again, saying Here.
–David Wagoner

Finding your path
Regardless of what phase you are in in your life, you’re not lost, you just don’t know where you are right now. You’re not stuck, you just waiting to find your path. Having an idea is like holding a little seed. As long as you keep it to yourself, it will stay just that. But as soon as you entrust it to the soil and nurture it, magic starts to happen.
In the sprouting (Start-up) phase, you will test your idea for the market. Is the soil right for the type of seed? Does your seed grow in this climate? Does the forest have space for the tree you are planting? If it does, then it is time to grow the sapling (Scale-up) into a full-sustaining tree. Finally, when the tree is at its prime, you will be enjoying the shade (Succession).
‘The one who plants trees, knowing that he will never sit in their shade, has at least started to understand the meaning of life.’ – Rabindranath Tagore
Break the rules, use the law
To follow your own authentic path, you must be willing to break some rules. And understand that the laws are not in place to hold you back. They are there to follow as a guideline for harmonic balance. Nature has many such laws. Some are well-known like Newton’s laws of motion, and the law of reaping what you sow. Some are less well-known like the law of compensation (Emmerson). All of them apply on nature, as well as on business. A spruce seed never turns in to pine tree and whatever goes up, must come down.
“Each person is compensated in like manner for that which he or she has contributed.” – Ralph Waldo Emmerson
